Saturday Feb 23 , 2008 JR Rock vs. againist Santa Monica U-19
Hello Rock,
Saturday Feb 23 , 2008 JR Rock went down and Played againist Santa Monica U-19 Side.
We Traveled with good numbers and Santa Monica had a lot injurys.
We had 3 of our boys step up and play with the other team so we could play 13 on 13. A special thank you to Merno, Brain, and Oscar for taking one for the team and playing hard againist us.
First half went as follows.
Both teams start out slow and sloppy a lot of knock-ons and line-outs. About half way through the first half we got an overlap and got it out to our Winger Alan. Alan tried too hard to get the ball under the post and was pushed out the back of the try-zone. No Points. About 5 minutes later the team would get a chance to put points on the board. A scrum to S.M. Our eightman Lee showed his speed and a willingness not to quit. He hit the scrum half as he was tring to pass. This lead to our back line stealing the ball and as our inside center was getting tackled 1meter out Lee came acrossed for the pass and opening try of the game. Joey had the Conversion game is now 7 to 0 Jr Rock's. This gave Rock a boost in the next 5 minutes we pressed hard and once again got the ball to Alan who learned from his mistake and touched the ball down immediatly when he crossed the try-zone. The conversion was missed. 12 to 0 Jr Rock Lead.
This would take us to half time.
Having the lead going into the second half and playing 13's instead of 15's we made some changes.
I put players in spots they had not played before. It didn't seem to matter our forwards were cleaning up our rucks and some of theirs as well. Nice Job! Our backs lead by our fly half 'The DR.' worked the field and just a few minutes into the seond half we got a 30 meter run by 'The DR.' for our third try. Alan made the conversion score now 19 to 0. But 'The Dr.' was not done and within 5 mins he was in again with a great run. Alan makes the conversion score now biulding 26 to 0.
At this point Santa Monica was starting to get stressed. One of there players got too mouthly with the referee and was given a 10min Sin Bid penalty. This would prove costly for Santa Monica. Although some great runs by one of the wingers there number 8 and scrumhalf in the next 10 mins JR Rock would put up two more tries. Produced by good ball control by forwards and quick hands and feet by the back line. Winger Noe scores frist then Outside Center Score last both kicks missed score now 36 to 0 JR Rock Lead.
In the last 10 mins of the game Santa Monica was back to full strength. S.M. showed of pride and fitness. Our forwards look tried and a few bad kicks straight to there great running Winger kept the ball at our end of the field for the most part. We had a late game run that put us again in scoring postion but bad hands left us empty handed. late in the game 20 meter out of our try Santa Monica gets and scrum and there Hard fight Scrum half picks and runs in weak all the way in for their first try and last score of the day. Kick was missed 36 to 5 JR Wins.
End game wrap up with a new award the rubber chicken voted out by team scrum half Edger get the first Honors or carring the chicken. Bone head was easy for his getting tackled out the back of try zone and not scoring the try Alan.
Now for MVP two players that did a great job but just missed the award this week were
first Simon for his great line out throw-ins, hard straight up the field running, good hands/passes, and hard rucking all game.
Second was Niki our Second half inside center is improving his game. He had great runs he was looking for passes and cleaning the ball up when it hit the ground.
Both these players played great. With the captains vote for much improved ball handing, rucking like a forward and scoring the last 5 points for the team
Joey gets MVP.
This was a great game all around and is show the team is improving in alot of was.
Now to step up fitness and fine tune the break downs.
We have some very hard games ahead of us.....Sincerely, Coach Caufield
Feb 16th 2008 Little Rock vs. S.O.C. Gators Saturday
This past Saturday the Young Guns played S.O.C. Gators at our home field.
This game started out on a Bad note the Gators kick off and we did not catch the ball
We let the gators pick up the ball and almost score.
We escaped with a little hard rucking a misstake by the Gators.
Most of the first half we played hard. We had some great runs. The Gators had a little bad luck and bad hands and could not push it in for a try till late in the half.
A heads up play and great hands but Danny picked up a bad Gators pass and ran it down to there 15m line. Hefty gave great support and was there to get the ball from ball and finsh off our
first try 5 to 0 is how the half ended.
The second period Rock step up and start to show support,
Better heads up play. Great jumping in the line outs by walker and much better
rucking by the forwards gave the backs alot of clean ball.
Some rookie mistakes and a lack of solid passing held us out of the try zone until Danny
had a kick up and over. Hefty chased it down in the try zone for his and our second score 10 to 0. The Gators try a few long runs and almost scored but, just like our own team mistakes stop them from scoring. Late in the second half a penatly 30m out
Alan for Rock kicks a 3 point pently kick to put us up 13 to 0.
Both teams take some hard runs at each other but, both make mistakes.
No scores and made in the last few second of the game the
Gators knock the ball on in their own try zone giving Rock and 5m scrum.
This would prove costly for the Gators. Hefty scores his third try and ends the game 18 to 0
Rock wins.
After the game due to a yellow card for a high tackle Lil Tango got The Bone head of the match.
For is great foot work good hands feilding kicks and great line out jumping Walker was MVP.
Next week the Young guns go to Santa Monica to play a round robin.
North County , Santa Monica and us.

San Diego Match report from Saturday 2-9-08
Rock,
Last weekend Jr Rock went down to play in a friendly tournament before going to watch the IRB International 7's. We met at 4am and got on the road at 4:30am. The drive took 2.5 hours down.
We showed up with great numbers. Nolan Day (ERAC Old Boy) brought his son (Connor)
in from Chicago to give us a helping hand (Thanks Nolan & Conner!).
Maybe we can have you both out for our annual alumni game.
The first game was againist Fallbrook High School.
This was a every hard hitting game all the way till the last whistle. There was no goal post so we where unable to utilize our great kickers. Since we have some great talent in that area, it hurt us. For the first half we took total control the field and the ball.
The handfull of times we got close to scoring we had a lack of team play or a stuipd penalty that stopped us from scoring. At half game was 0-0. The second half they made better adjustments then I did and, the the game was on after a rookie penalty about 15 meter out. They did a quick tap and, quick hands to there big man who we just diid not want to go low and take his legs out.
By the time someone did, it was do late and they scored. ROCK JR 0 them 5. There was alot of time left and Jr rock set up there game and controlled the ball. Rock owned the field from here on out but, just like in the first half a lack of passing in the back line and some bad timed penalties. The referee did not see our players being dragged down by the neck serval times (check the pics). Connor had a great game and was neck-tied like 5 times. Rock just could not finish and score. Late in the game a bad pass was picked up by Fallbrook. The Fallbrook player ran through almost the entire team until our Fullback came streaking across the field to make the Hit of the day. Bad news it was a Hit and not a tackle which got fallbrook mad. I like to thank our team Captain Art for being smart and not letting this turn into a brawl. This was the end of the game and although our boys played a great game, not being able to finish the job cost us the game.
Second Game the S.O.C. Gators Forfeited.
At the end of the day Bone head could of went to alot of people
Our full back Chava for the Hit not tackle, Big Jaun for running behind his own player at the 5m when it was our penalty. Danny for not wanting to pass and kicking the ball when is was like 10m from the try line. But for the Third straight Game Joey for not showing up and calling at 1030 asking if he had time to make it from the valley to S.D.(BONE HEAD)
MVP for his increible engery and hard work. I like to give a very close second to Connor Day (Nolan's Son) but, for the second straight game and making sure the team did not lose it cool Art was MVP.

Next game this Saturday againist S.O.C. Gators
Cantwell high school Match report from thursday 2-7-08
Rock,
For those of you that do not know Jr Rock had a game last nite against Cantwell high school.
Pete Smolin (ERAC old boy) coached the team last year and is the athletic director.
Rock started off hard pressing the ball down the field with some nice foot work hard runs and, a few well placed kicks. 14 mins in gave us our first points penalty kick from Napo. We lead 3-0 it was 10 more mins before we scored again with quick hands and spreading the field Napo scored a try on the out side The conversion was missed for a lead of 8 to 0. Do not count out Cantwell they pressed hard and, with hard forward running with 25 minutes left to play made it 8 -7 our lead..
Five minutes later with a quick run by Danny and some nice rucking work by the forwards a off side penalty was called and once again Napo kicked for 3 points 11-7 lead going iinto the last 20minutes of play. Both teams forwards where hard hitting and for the next 15 minutes Cantwell
was keeping the ball deep in our terrory looking to score. but with a little luck and, hard rucking we got the ball out to our backs who force the ball back down the field. We were awarded a penalty (coming in from the side by other team). This time it would be Alan trying a 30yard kick from 5 meters in from side line. He made it look easy. We lead now 14 to 7. Cantwell kicked off and came down the field hard. Our forwards set up a nice ruck and Edger ( Scrumhalf) with a nice pick up and, fake pass then he ran it back in and down field for a 60 meter try.
Alan's Kick was good. 21-7
Going into the last 2 minutes. Cantwwell would not go quietly into the nite and Jr Rock got alittle lazy , to happy and lost focus. So Cantwell drove it down to the 1meter line Captain Art picked up a dropped ball got it out to the winger so he could kick out of bounds to end the game.
We like to thank happy foot Danny and sugar foot Napo for helping out the young guns. Joey forgot to bring the Bone head awards so he is Bone head for the second straight week. This week Edgar got very close to being Bone Head.
For MVP with his increable 60 meter run, and for keeping the teams head in the game and not letting the pressure off Captain Art was this Weeks MVP.
Next game This Saturday a small round robin in S.D. just before the USA 7's wish the boys luck 4 games in 8 days.

SLO Match report from Saturday 2-2-08
I must say I am sorry for not giving out u-19 match reports so I will make a habit
to do so. With my writing skills I will try to keep it simple.
This past week The Young guns traveled up to SLO. We traveled with 20 players 4 of which had never played and, 3 others that have only played one game. We were also missing one of our starting props.
So going up there I figured it would be a hard match.
For those that have not heard the U-19 pack wieghts more then the mens pack and i have to bring in backs for jumpers in light outs because even my Loosies are big. This infact would be the story of the day. The first half was all Rock. We man-handled the smaller team. Although there was some questionble passing in the back line they had no answer for our size.
Second half was alot more work for us putting in all the rookies made more work for us and gave them a few chances to score on us. Just like the first half they could not handle the! size of Jr Rock.
The final was 41 Rock to 0 SLO.
Player of young Match was Big Jaun number for two his hard work and break downs and tro driving tries. Bone head went to Center Joey so his increable poor passing.
Point we need to ok on get the game plan down as a team , passing in the backs,
line outs and better support. Over all the team improved in there play. As of now they have all three games and in round robins out right own the first one and lost the second but look to play both those teams in regular matches later in the season.
